Dominique Bathenay : “Paris Saint-Germain is a club with titles”
The PSG will compete this Saturday, April 27th the final of the Coupe de France against Rennes. Opportunity for the Parisians to win their fifth coupe de France on, which would be a record, the 13th in the history of the club. The former captain of the Paris Saint-Germain, Dominique Bathenay, was expressed in an interview granted to PSG.fr on the first coronation of the club in the club cup, as well as on the current team PSG.
Part of the team that won the first cup of France of the history of Paris Saint-Germain in 1982, Dominique Bathenay evokes his memories of that period in which Paris was then a young club. “This victory is built throughout the season. During the previous three seasons, we have experienced difficulties. New players brought freshness to the team. The club began to take shape. These are often inversions during matches that make the clicks. What you must remember is the fact that the club was able to get there and then played a leading role.”
Co-record holder of the number of French cup won, Bathenay could, in case of victory of the PSG on Saturday, to be matched by Marco Verratti, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot.
“Records are made to be broken ! It is a part of the history of football, Marceau Somerlinck was the first to win five Cups of France (with Lille, in 1946, 1947, 1948, 1953 and 1955). His record has been equalled (by him, then by Alain Roche with Bordeaux in 1986 and 1987 and the Paris Saint-Germain in 1993, 1995 and 1998), but not yet beaten. If all the players of the current workforce will remain at the club, they have no reason not to win the trophy. The Paris Saint-Germain is a club with titles, so they have great chances of winning the Coupe de France.” says the former player.
